Didn t see this but then again I have only been on the RPG general section lately

I ve been emulating some games of mine lately PSX mostly and I ve always enjoyed how the DS3 controller felt. However in order to use your sixaxis/ds3 controller on the PC, you had to go through a lot of hocus pocus and having to run the ps3sixaxen_en.exe file EVERYTIME you plug the controller in. and of course another bonus is that rumble is now supported.

- a dualshock 3 or sixaxis controller

- and last but not least, the drivers found here:  Updated link: Dualshock 3 Drivers

1 Plug in your controller using the one that came with it as if you were going to charge it from your PC.

2 Extract the. zip file in a suitable location.

3 Go to My Computer then right click properties.

4 Select the Hardware tab then click the Device Manager button

5 Double-click the Human Interface Devices and you may see one or many USB Human Interface Devices

-If there are multiple, simply right click- properties and it should say Location: Location 0 Playstation Controller or something to that effect. If not, try the next one.

6 Once you found the USB HID that says PS controller, right click- Update Driver. A HW update screen will show.

7 Click No, not at this time and hit next.

8 Next option you will hit is: Install from a list or specific location Advanced. Hit next.

9 Select Don t search. I will choose the driver to install.

10 Towards the bottom right will be a button saying, Have Disk click on that.

11 Finally, go ahead and click Browse and go to the location you extracted the drivers. It should show you the dualshock3.inf file.

12 Go ahead and select the dualshock3.inf file. Simply just keep clicking OK, Next, Continue Anyway, and then Finish.

13 edit: Now that you got ds3 installed and recognized, right click- install on the DUALSHOCK3FF.ini file from the ds3 ff driver folder you downloaded.

Now all you got to do is simply hit the PS button on the controller and you re good to go. Don t need libusb drivers don t need to run ps3sixaxis_en anymore just hit that PS button and rumble is all yours.

Feel free to delete the files youve downloaded. Theyre copied into your windows/system32 folder automatically.

I have verified this to work with rumble. You will see a DS3FF white icon in your taskbar when you open up a game.

If you re curious, the taskbar icon has two options. The first one toggles rumble and the 2nd one will open up a menu. I don t recommend messing with the settings but you can change them to your fancy. The first value is amplification ratio, second value is minimum value to start rumbling, third and fourth values are min/max value of large motors i believe, and the last value is maximum value. No idea.

- No, this will not work wirelessly

- This does not work for 64bit OSes, I m afraid.

- Doesn t work for Macs but then again you dont have any games to play on it anyways lol.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I should be able to answer.

edit: Terribly sorry I forgot about the steps to actually get vibration working. I updated the guide with appropriate edits.

edit2: My original link for the ds3 ff drivers was somehow deleted. I fixed it only took me like a year.

I tried this yesterday, following what appears to be the same instructions from another site , and basically, LilUSB screwed up, and I couldn t uninstall it. The controller would just keep flashing all the lights, and I had to do a system restore.

I remember I tried it once and it worked, then it just stopped.

LibUSB. That s not pertinent to this tutorial. That s the old method and I know your pain because you really had to dig out the libusb dll and files to uninstall it otherwise it simply wouldnt work without the right version of libusb. That s not an issue for this guide.

As for the guy mentioning having the latest drivers that s odd. Does it show as Playstation 3 controller under Human Interface Devices rather than as USB Human Interface Device. If so then you mightve already installed it. Otherwise you can try right clicking it and simply doing uninstall, replug the controller in, and give it another go.

May I ask, is there any way to make the D-pad works. Every game I tried, all the button work fine, except the D-pad. I can use the left analog, but I want to use the D-pad since it s more accuracy for fighting games and the like. I tried to reassign the button, but it doesn t recognize the D-pad, but only the analog stick instead. Is there a way to disable analog with this driver.

Moved to PlayStation 3 Updates

I have managed to connect my PS3 to my PC using Windows Media Player 11. But I cannot find any of the files that are in WMP11 on the PS3. Any suggestions.

I recently purchased a DVI-Male to HDMI-Female connector for my JVC AV-36P902 HD ready tv. I know the tv is HDCP compliant, and has a max resolution up to 1080i. The problem is that I can t seem to get a picture when I set the tv to the Digital In mode, I do manage to get sound through the same output setting though. Does anyone have any possible solutions to the problems. Any help is appreciated.

Unfortunately none of these steps have worked. When I start up the PS3 it asks me if I would like to switch to an HDMI output, when I select yes the screen goes black. I know that the TV is picking up a signal otherwise the screen would turn blue. Also I read my TV manual and it clearly says HDCP compliant.

after the screen goes blank did you switch the input on the tv to the DVI.

I m planning on replacing the paste of my 40gb CECHH01 with IC7 paste.  Can I tighten the screws by hand and have no problem.

I hear talk about the heatsinks not touching the CPU and GPU correctly. I m afraid if I loosenthe already bad bond, I won t get it back to normal again.

On the 40GB, they will match up perfectly. The design was perfected in the 40GB, IMO.

I worked on a 60GB launch model, and trying to get the sinks and CPU/GPU to match up and hold was HORRIBLE.

A little bird told me that the PS3 will be featured in the July 11th Walmart ad.  This would suggest that a giftcard most likely will come with it.

This might be a good time to pick one up.

The new ad should hit Walmart.com by Thursday.

Connecting a PS3 controller to a PC is not as difficult as one might expect, and typically requires PC users to do little more than plug their controller in the their PC s USB input. All you really need is a USB cable. Although most stock wireless PS3 controllers come packaged with a USB charge cable, players can purchase a third-party charge cable  1.50 if missing the component. Since you need those to charge the controller, you ll need one regardless.

Here s our quick-hit guide to connecting a PS3 controller to a PC, so you can ditch the mouse and keyboard if you so desire. The exact process for doing so depends on whether you re utilizing a wireless or wired device, but it s essentially the same regardless of the controller.

Step 1: Downloading the Better DS3 Program

Configuring your computer to properly recognize a PS3 controller can be tricky, and for those who aren t the most familiar with computers the process can seem convoluted to say the least. Thankfully, a user-friendly way of connecting your controller to a PC has come to light in the past couple years, by way of a program called Better DS3. The new process for connecting a controller is much less confusing than it once was, allowing you to emulate other types of PC gameplads with your PS3 controller in a program, instead of repeatedly installing drivers on your computer.

First, navigate to the Better DS3 website and download the driver configuration tool. Once the download finishes, open the resulting ZIP folder titled BetterDS3_1.5.3, from the previously-designated save location using 7-Zip or a similar archive utility.  Afterward, double-click the Better DS3 application to launch the software.

Step 2: Running the Program and Creating a Profile

Once the application opens, plug your wired PS3 controller into a USB slot on your PC. If using a wireless PS3 controller, connect the cable to the controller before you plug the other end of the cable into the PC. Give the machine a moment to recognize the controller, and if successful, the device will then appear in the box beneath the Connected DS3 Controllers section of the application window.

Next, you ll need to create a profile that will tell your computer which kind of PC controller you want to emulate, as you re essentially mirroring the functionality of other PC-compatible controllers. For instance, if you select XInput the Xbox 360 controller emulator your PS3 controller will act as an Xbox 360 controller on your PC. We d recommend going this route, and creating a profile using XInput, as it happens to be the most universal when playing PC games.

To do so, click the drop-down menu that says New, and select the XInput option. Once done, a new window will appear with various options for customizing your controller s respective button mapping. Afterward, click the gray Xbox 360 button in the top-right corner of the window, and allow the application to automatically map the controls based on the basic Xbox 360 controller layout. Keep in mind you ll still have the ability to modify the button layouts as you see fit once configured, and you can even adjust the vibration strength and set your chosen profile for automatically connecting your controller upon login. Once complete, your controller should be ready for use with any PC game.

Step 3: Syncing your Bluetooth capable wireless PS3 controller  Optional

Syncing your PS3 controller to your PC via Bluetooth isn t as tough as you might think. First, ensure both your controller and PC are Bluetooth capable. Although Sony s DualShock 3 controllers all feature Bluetooth compatibility, not all third-party manufacturers offer the functionality. You can always purchase and equip your PC with a wireless dongle adapter  7  if you re determined to wirelessly use your PS3 controller with your PC.

Once equipped with a Bluetooth-capable controller, bring up the Better DS3 application window and click the Bluetooth Pairing button. Once clicked, simply unplug the charge cable connecting your controller to your PC. If done correctly, your wireless PS3 controller will then be synced with your PC. Additionally, the Better DS3 program touts a host of other notable features that go beyond gaming functionality. Once set up, your control can mirror several other input options, including your keyboard and mouse, simultaneously allowing button mapping for any situation.
